Five same-gender couple in international cricket

Same-Sex marriage is not uncommon in today's day and age although it is still a taboo in the Indian sub-continent. On the other hand, outside of Asia and the Indian subcontinent, female cricketers of the same sex have either married each other. In recent years, there are a few cricketers who have married each other. They play for England, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, etc.

There are many couples in the game who have done the same. However, in this listicle, we will discuss only five couples who have done it. All of them are current-generation cricketers and have been doing well at the highest level. Not to forget, they have a massive fan following who follows Women's cricket in general.

1. Alex Blackwell and Lynsey Askew

Australia’s Alex Blackwell married England’s Lynsey Askew in 2015. Before this, they dated for eight years. They got married in Askew's country of birth.

Two years before this Blackwell came out in public to admit that she is a lesbian. On the cricketing front, both Blackwell and Askew represented their respective countries.

2. Jess Jonassen and Sarah Wearn

Australia left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen proposed to a non-cricketer Sarah Wearn in 2018. The former has been part of the last few 20-20 World Cup-winning teams.

She will turn up for Delhi in the inaugural Women's T20 League starting on March 4. Jonassen is one of the premium spinners of Australia with more than 175 international matches under her belt.

3. Megan Schutt and Jess Holyoake

Australia pacer Schutt married Jess Holyoake in 2019 after dating each other for a long time. The former has been playing at the highest since her debut in 2012. She has played more than 150 international matches.

On the other hand, just like Jonassen's wife, Schutt Holyoake is not a cricketer. She worked as a facilities manager for Cricket Australia. They were blessed with a child named Rylee Loiuse Schutt in August 2021.

4. Lea Tahuhu and Amy Satterthwaite

New Zealand players, Amy Satterthwaite and Lea Tahuhu tied the knot in 2017. While Satterthwaite is a prolific left-handed batter, Tahuhu is an ace right-arm speedster. They also have a daughter named Grace Marie Satterthwaite.

The southpaw delivered her on January 13, 2020. They continue to be tightly knit after almost six years into their marriage.

5. Dane van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp

South Africa captain Dane van Niekerk and star all-rounder Marizanne Kapp entered the wedlock in 2018. They dated each other for a few years before this. While van Niekerk is a right-handed batter and a right-arm leg spinner, Kapp is a right-handed batter and a right-arm seamer.
