The much-anticipated mini-auction for the 2023 edition of the Indian T20 League is underway in Kochi. The fortune of a total of 405 players is being decided under the hammer by the 10 participating franchises of the tournament.
Meanwhile, in a big piece of news, the star England all-rounder Ben Stokes has been bought by the multi-time title winner Chennai. The franchise has spent a total amount of INR 16.25 crore to rope in the England Test skipper. It was already expected that the New Zealand-based English cricketer would be bought in a higher amount as he played a sensational and match-defining knock against Pakistan during the final of the 20-20 World Cup 2022.
Cricket fans are also delighted to see Ben Stokes in former legendary Indian skipper MS Dhoni’s Indian T20 League team. They immediately took to Twitter to lavish their praises on the 31-year-old England star.

To Jadeja and Ben Stokes 🥲
Immediately after the announcement of Ben Stokes’ name by the auctioneer, Bangalore and Rajasthan were the first two franchises to start the bidding war. Subsequently, the price went high for the veteran all-rounder and it was the time when Rajasthan and Bangalore backed out from the bidding war to save their budget.
Following the backing out of Rajasthan and Bangalore, Lucknow and Hyderabad happened to enter the bidding war which eventually resulted in the price reaching above the mark of INR 10 crore.
At that moment, Chennai joined the bidding war and provided very tough competition to both franchises. Finally, it was the yellow outfits that sealed the spot of Ben Stokes in their team for the 16th edition of the cash-rich Indian T20 tournament.
