The stage was set at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Cheapuk for the eliminator of the ongoing IPL on 24 May 2023. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) locked horns with Mumbai Indians (MI). In the group stage, LSG finished third with 17 points in 14 games. While MI finished fourth with 16 points in 14 games.

However, LSG came to this clash with a 3-0 lead over MI in IPL as MI were never able to defeat them. So, LSG were looking to continue their dominance while MI were looking open their account. Speaking of the match, Rohit won the toss and opted to bat first. Ishan Kishan came out along with Rohit. 

MI will now face GT in qualifier two

But, LSG bowlers managed a good start as MI were at 38 runs for two wickets in 4.2 overs. Ishan scored 15 runs off 12 balls while Rohit scored 11 runs off 10 balls. Then, Cameron Green played a quickfire inning as he scored 41 runs off 23 balls, including six fours and one six. After that, short but impactful cameos came from Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Tim David, and Nehal Wadhera. Thus, finally, MI scored 182 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. For LSG, Naveen-ul-Haq stunned MI by picking up four wickets for 38 runs in four overs. Along with him, Yash Thakur grabbed three wickets and Mohsin Khan took one.

In reply, LSG batters failed to have a good start by losing two wickets for 54 runs in six overs. Only Marcus Stoinis managed to score 40 runs off 27 balls, including five fours and one six. Apart from him, no batters managed to score big as their batting order crumbled. MI bowlers were on a roll as they bundled out LSG for 100 runs in 16.3 overs. Akash Madhwal was exceptional by picking up five wickets for five runs in 3.3 overs. Thus, LSG got eliminated and now, MI will now face GT in qualifier two in Ahmedabad. MI won the game by 81 runs.
