Australia had toured Pakistan earlier this year. It consisted of three Tests, as many ODIs and a T20I. It was a historic series as an Aussie team never toured the Asian country in the 21st century. The last time they came to Pakistan was way back in 1998. Notably, Australia A side did visit Pakistan in 2007. Meanwhile, the passionate fans of the South Asian country were looking forward to the series.

However, the fans had to bear a dull draw in Rawalpindi where only 14 wickets fell in three innings for five days. For the unversed, the wicket in Rawalpindi is famous for being the liveliest in Pakistan. This time around, it wasn't the case. The World Cricket Governing Council termed the pitch as 'average'. The PCB faced flak for preparing a docile pitch.

After this, the teams went to Karachi for the second Test. Australia dominated the first innings and amassed 556/9 declared. In reply, the hosts could only score 148, trailing by 408 runs. The visitors decided to bat again and set a target of 506 for the Babar Azam's men. The world number five-Test side scored 443/7 and escaped with a draw.

The caravan went to Lahore and the rest of the matches of the series were played there eventually. The reason for this being the limited-overs games scheduled in Rawalpindi couldn't be played as the political situation in Pakistan was tense. The opposition parties had moved a no-confidence motion against the then Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The Pat Cummins-led side won the last Test by 115 runs and the series by 1-0. The teams then played three ODIs and a T20I at the venue. A few months after the series, it is reported that cricket Australia had told the PCB that the dressing rooms of Lahore need to be improved and renovated.

The team is currently looking to host England for the seven-match T20I series in September this year. However, the schedule of the series is yet to be announced.
