On 6 April 2023, Kolkata Knight Rider took on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing IPL. However, all eyes were on star all-rounder Andre Russell as he has produced some top moments against the Bangalore franchise over the years. In the season opener, Russel looked in good touch as he scored 35 runs off 19 balls, including three fours and two sixes.

Speaking about his performances against Bangalore, during the IPL 2019, Andre Russell played outstanding knocks in two fixtures. At Chinnaswamy, he scored 65 runs off 25 balls while at Eden Gardens, Russell scored 48* runs off just 13 balls. Then, in the 2021 season, he took three wickets with the ball for just nine runs. So, fans were hoping for another top show from the star Caribbean all-rounder.

However, this was Russell’s 100th match in IPL. So, it was another special occasion for him, and ahead of the match while speaking to IPL, Andre Russel said: "I always try to do my best whenever I represent KKR, but it's something special when you are home. You get a boundary, you get a wicket, the home support cheers that you get from the crowd, that really inspires all of us. It's inspired me for the last couple of years, playing here. I am just looking forward to give back to fans who come to support us."

He further added: "I think the start is very key, we have a good team. Just like most franchises, once we do the right thing and keep it simple, we will make sure get a good start. Look to win as much games as possible from the start so that at the backend we don't have to be under a lot of pressure. I don't think we should depend on another franchise to lose to go through. If that is what it comes down to that, we will sit down and pray together". But, Andre Russell failed miserably as he scored a golden duck against RCB.
