The Asia Cup 2023 is all set to begin on 30 August as the first game will take place in Pakistan between the Men in Green vs Nepal. Pakistan, being the host, wanted to host the whole tournament on their home soil. But, due to political barriers, India were not ready to visit and hence, they came up with a hybrid model that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) approved.

Hence, now, only four matches will be played in Pakistan while the other nine matches will be played in Sri Lanka. The Men in Blue will play all of their matches in Sri Lanka only. But, now, reports have come out that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have invited the secretary of the Indian Cricket Board, Jay Shah for a visit to the opening game of the tournament in Pakistan. After such reports, fans shared their views on social media.

Pakistan could play India thrice in this upcoming Asia Cup

While speaking to PTI, a source close to the development said: “The PCB has basically followed up on the invitation which was extended verbally by Chairman Zaka Ashraf to Jay Shah when they both met in Durban for the Apex Council of Cricket meeting”.

“The PCB was obviously embarrassed after the Pakistani media reported that Jay Shah had accepted Zaka Ashraf’s invitation, and the Indian board official later flatly denied this. The idea is to basically highlight Pakistan’s chosen stance on cricket relations with India: that it does not mix politics with sports,” he concluded.

Both India and Pakistan are in the same group in this competition along with Nepal. They are highly favourites to qualify for the ‘Super 4s’ stage and there, they will meet again, If they manage to qualify for the final, then, fans can watch another enthralling battle between these arch-rivals in the final. The Men in Green have won this trophy twice so far while India are the most successful team with seven titles to their name in a total of 15 editions.
