Team India registered a comfortable victory over Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Nagpur by an inning and 132 runs. Now, they will be in action again from 17 February when they will take on the Aussies in the second Test in Delhi. However, fans were hoping for a better show from KL Rahul in the match.

But, he disappointed his fans again as Rahul scored only 20 runs off 71 balls. On 11 February 2023, the former India cricketer, Venkatesh Prasad slammed the Indian Cricket Board for the selection of KL Rahul in the laying XI. He put allegations of ‘Favouritism’ on the team management. Now, another former team India great, Sunil Gavaskar came in support of KL Rahul for the second Test.

During his conversation with India Today, Sunil Gavaskar reacted to that tweet from the former India pacer. He said that the way KL Rahul have batted in the last one or two years, he has done well. Gavaskar also claimed that he should play the Delhi Test and if he fails, then in-form Shubman Gill can replace him for the next match.

Gavaskar said: “I feel the way he has batted in the last 1-2 years, he performed well. I feel he should be given one more chance. I'm sure he will be backed for the Test match in Delhi. After that, you can give it a thought because you have an in-form batter ready to replace him, Shubman Gill.” Another former India player, Madan Lal was also a part of that conversation.

He also said: He should definitely get a chance. Even when Vikram Rathour had come to the press conference he had reminded that he scored a century in South Africa. He does have the ability but he has been out of form lately...scoring against Australia is a big challenge in itself and getting those runs gives a morale boost. But he can been stuck here. However, based on his ability, he should get another chance.” However, after seeing such backing from Sunil Gavaskar for KL Rahul, fans were not happy. They slammed him brutally on social media platforms.
