Benny Howell posts a cryptic tweet after Punjab played their last game in the Indian T20 League 2022

Punjab played their last league stage game against Hyderabad in the Indian T20 League 2022 on Sunday at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Punjab bowled well and restricted Hyderabad to just 157 runs in the first innings. Harpreet Brar was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 3 for 26 runs in 4 overs.

Nathan Ellis was also given a chance to prove his mettle. He bowled his heart out and finished with bowling figures of 3 for 26 runs in 4 overs. In reply, Punjab chased down the score in 15.1 overs. Shikhar Dhawan, once again, played a handy knock of 39 runs in 32 balls. However, it was Liam Livingstone, who proved to be the difference as he played a game-changing knock of 49 runs in just 22 balls, including 2 fours and 5 sixes.

For the unversed, this was Punjab’s last league stage match this season. Punjab made three changes in the playing XI. Punjab gave chances to Nathan Ellis, Shahrukh Khan, and also Prerak Mankad. Punjab played every overseas player this season except Benny Howell.

The 33-year-old English fast bowler was the only overseas bowler who wasn’t given the opportunity this season. Later, he expressed his disappointment by posting a cryptic tweet. A lot of fans tried to understand the reason behind his post. Some of them sympathized with him for not giving him any chance in the ongoing season.

After registering a win on Sunday, Punjab finished at number six on the points table with 7 wins in 14 matches. Prior to the start of the tournament, they had compiled an outstanding squad. A lot of experts and fans had high hopes from the franchise. However, inconsistent performances didn’t help their cause. Had they been a little more consistent, Punjab could have reached the playoffs this year.

Meanwhile, the league stage of the Indian T20 League is done and dusted. The top four teams have been finalized. Gujarat will take on Rajasthan in the qualifier 1, while the Eliminator 1 will be played between Bangalore and Lucknow.
