After a washed-out afternoon clash between Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings, the fans witnessed a high-scoring encounter between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 46th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Wednesday, May 3 as the five-time champions defeated PBKS by 6 wickets.

Earlier, MI skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first. The bowlers started really well as they dismissed PBKS' young sensation Prabhsimran Singh in the 2nd over of the 1st innings. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan and allrounder Matthew Short never showed intent in their struggling 49-run stand. PBKS were 78/2 at the end of 10 overs but ended up scoring 136 off the last 10 overs. It all started off in the opening over of Akash Madhwal, who conceded 16 that included a no-ball as well. 

Though Short got out in the next over to Chawla, the arrival of Jitesh was just the perfect dose of exuberance Liam Livingstone was waiting for. Having faced just 2 balls, Jitesh took on Archer in the 13th over and squeezed 21 off the over to regain momentum for the home side and the whiplash never stopped. Livingstone belted Archer for a hat-trick of sixes in the penultimate over and ended up scoring 82 runs off just 42 balls. Jitesh also played well as he scored 49 runs off 27 balls and stitched a fiery 119-run partnership with Livingstone and took the team to a massive total of 214 runs.

Chasing the target, skipper Rohit continued his poor form and acquired a duck. However, Ishan Kishan struck 75 and Suryakumar Yadav was enthralled by 66. The final touches were then added by Tilak Varma and Tim David to seal a breathtakingly simple victory. PBKS were simply never given any opportunities, thanks to the 116 runs from 9.1 overs between Suryakumar and Kishan. Bowlers from Punjab were dispatched on a trip. It was evident by Arshdeep Singh's 66 in 3.5 overs. Two wins in a row for MI gives them positive momentum moving forward.
