Virat Kohli is currently busy playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing IPL. He has been enjoying a good season so far with the bat as Kohli is in the fifth position in the race for the Orange Cap this year. Now, he will be in action again on 14 May when RCB will take on Rajasthan Royals (RR). Now, ahead of this clash, he came up with a bold statement in a recent interaction in Hotstar. Kohli said that he has no shame in accepting that he made many mistakes when he was captain. Till IPL 2021, he was the skipper of RCB and after January 2022, he lost the captaincy of Team India across all three formats.

“My goal was to take the team forward” - Virat Kohli

During the interaction, he said: "I have no shame in accepting that I have made many mistakes when I was captain but never did anything for my own selfish motives - my goal was to take the team forward, failures will happen but intent was never in the wrong place." Under Kohli’s tenure as the captain of the Men in Blue, Team India reached the final of the Champions Trophy 2017, and the semi-final of the ODI World Cup 2019 but got out of the 20-20 World Cup 2021 in the group stage. However, Team India became number one in the rankings in the Test format for a long time.

But, Kohli failed to win any major silverware for his country or the franchise as the skipper. Ahead of the IPL 2023, in the RCB Podcast, as quoted by NDTV, the star batter said: “Look, you play to win tournaments. I captained in Champions Trophy 2017, 2019 World Cup, I captained in World Test Championship, and T20 World Cup in 2021. After three (four) ICC tournaments, I was considered as a failed captain.” So, seeing such a comment from him, fans came up and shared their views on social media.
