All eyes were on MS Dhoni and his men when they took on Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final of IPL 2023 in Ahmedabad on 29 May. However, CSK held their nerves and won their fifth IPL title by defeating the defending champion by five wickets. But, after that, all fans were eagerly waiting to know if MS Dhoni will continue to play or not in the tournament.

Since the start of the 16th edition of IPL, there were reports or rumours that this edition would be the last one for the CSK skipper in this tournament. Hence, on all grounds around India, CSK fans have turned up also to show their support and love for him. But, after the final, Dhoni cleared all the fuss about his retirement plans and after hearing that fans shared their views on social media.  

“The way they've shown their love and emotion, it's something I need to do for them.” - MS Dhoni

After winning the final, during the post-match presentation ceremony, Dhoni said: “If you circumstantially see, it's the best time to announce the retirement. The easy thing for me to say is thank you and retire. But the hard thing to do is to work hard for nine months and try to play one more IPL season. The body has to hold up.”

“But the amount of love I have received from CSK fans, it would be a gift for them to play one more season. The way they've shown their love and emotion, it's something I need to do for them. It's the last part of my career. It started over here and the full house was chanting my name. It was my same thing in Chennai, but it will be good to come back and play whatever I can,” the CSK skipper further added. Listening to that, it seemed that Dhoni is more likely to play one more season for CSK, though it would be very tough for him to maintain fitness.
