The Men in Blue took on Australia in the third Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Indore on 1 March 2023. But, all fans were waiting to see whether Shubman Gill replaces KL Rahul or not. There is a lot of noise since the start of this series that Gill should play in the playing XI ahead of Rahul.
Shubman Gill had enjoyed great last few months with the bat across all three formats for team India. He scored his maiden Test ton in Bangladesh. Then, he smashed his maiden T20I ton and a few ODI centuries in the recent home series against Sri Lanka and the Kiwis respectively. So, fans were in shock when team India went with KL Rahul over him for the first two Tests.

Even, former cricketers like Harbhajan Singh and Kapil Dev also said that Rahul should get dropped for having a better balance in the playing XI. In three innings so far, he has scored 38 runs as an opener. On the eve of the Indore Test, Rohit said: “As far as Gill and KL both are concerned, that is how they train and practice before any game. Today was an optional training session for the entire group.”
“All 17-18 are in the reckoning. It’s not just about Gill and Rahul. But as far as our XI is concerned, we have not finalised it yet. I prefer it to be announced at the toss. Can’t count out last-minute injuries and all and we will keep it interesting for you guys as well,” the team India skipper added. Speaking of the match, Rohit won the toss and confirmed that Gill replaced Rahul in the playing XI.
Fans were happy to see that change but it did not last long as Shubman Gill disappointed his fans. He scored just 21 runs off 18 balls, including three fours. But, now an image has gone viral where Shubman Gill was seen shaking hands with KL Rahul in the dressing room. It seemed that the incident took place when Gill went back to the dressing room after getting out on 21 runs.
