On 9 March 2023, team India locked horns with Australia in the fourth Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Ahmedabad. Before the match, there were reports that Ishan Kishan could get a debut in place of Srikar Bharat. But, at the toss, Rohit Sharma confirmed that only one change has been made.  Mohammed Shami came in place of Mohammed Siraj. So, the debut of Ishan Kishan got delayed. But, after the end of day one’s play, a video has now gone viral where the Indian skipper was seen going for a slap to the star batter.

Seeing that, fans were in shock and shared their views on social media. Speaking of the video, the incident took place when Ravindra Jadeja came up to bowl in the 61st over. Before that over, Rohit Sharma was seen having water and then, he gave the bottle to Ishan Kishan who was going back to the dressing room. But, he failed to grab it properly and it fell down. Then, the Indian skipper was seen going for a slap to the young batter. However, it seemed to be in a light mode but fans came up with some funny replies over Rohit.

Before this match, Rohit Sharma said that they will support KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan will get a longer run in the near future. In the pre-match press conference, Rohit said: “Honestly, Pant is a big miss. We all know what he can do with the bat. He's kept so well for us on turning pitches. He's a big miss. We knew he was not going to be available for us, that's one of the reasons we got Ishan. He's a left-hander, can attack.”

"Speaking about Bharat, he spent a lot of time in domestic cricket and scored a lot of runs. It will be unfair to judge him on these kind of pitches. Especially, if someone is making debut, you got to give him enough room to set himself up for a big score. That's something I spoke to him at the start of the series, (I told him) 'don't worry about the kind of pitches and the challenges. You will get enough time to prove yourself',” he further added.

“I spoke to Ishan (Kishan) as well, even when he gets his chances, he will also get a number of games. We won't drop him after two matches. That's unfair. That's what we are doing with KS Bharat now,” Rohit Sharma concluded.
