Afghanistan thrashed Pakistan by six wickets in the first T20I of the three-match series on Friday (March 24), making history. For the first time, Afghanistan defeated Pakistan in the shortest format of the game. Pakistan were bowled out for their fifth-lowest T20I total ever, as Afghan batters chased it down with 2.1 overs left to seal the victory. Despite choosing to bat first after winning the toss, Pakistan only scored 92 for 9 in their quota of 20 overs. Although having a difficult time scoring throughout the entire innings, Imad Wasim led the charge for Pakistan with 18 from 32 deliveries.

Interestingly, in the post-match presentation, Rahmanullah Gurbaz was awarded the cash prize for the most sixes in the game despite hitting just one maximum. Interestingly, a total of four batters hit sixes in the game. It was Siam Ayub and Zaman Khan for Pakistan. While Mohammad Nabi was the other Afghan batter with a six. The decision was largely debated since he was not the highest-scoring batter among the ones who scored a six, nor was his boundary count the highest among the four.

Mohammad Nabi was the star of the Afghanistan chase with an unbeaten 38

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, the Afghanistan openers tasked with chasing down the target, got off to a sluggish start before three wickets went for just a few runs during the powerplay. Karim Janat also immediately left. Nabi and Najibullah Zadran pulled up an unbroken 53-run partnership with 6 wickets and 13 balls remaining to send Afghanistan home.

"Tough to chase in these conditions. As a batting group, my plan was to bat on and take responsibility. Most of the guys are playing in the big leagues. Some guys came from the PSL. We wanted to do our best in the series. Sometimes 38 is equivalent to a 100 in conditions like these," Nabi said in the post-match presentation ceremony. Afghanistan now lead the three-match T20I series 1-0 with the second game set to played on Sunday.
