On 15 April 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) locked horns with Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing IPL. So, all eyes were on Prithvi Shaw as he was in action for DC. However, he has failed to score big in any matches in the ongoing tournament. Shaw came to this tournament after having a great domestic season.

So, fans were expecting to see him scoring at a good pace along with David Warner at the top. But, Prithvi Shaw has failed to live up to the expectations. Before the season, DC coach, Ricky Ponting also claimed that he has been in better physical shape. He also claimed that this season is going to be the best one for Shaw.

Prithvi Shaw scored a two-ball duck against RCB in IPL 2023

Ricky Ponting said: "He's been here right from the start actually. He's in better physical shape than I've ever seen him before. I spoke with him the other day about his attitude and the way that he's working and how things are going. And I honestly feel this is going to be his biggest season ever in the IPL. He just has that different look in his eye this year. You can see him probably hungry than ever,” Ponting said. Before the RCB clash, Shaw scored 34 runs in four matches. In the second match against Gujarat Titans, he scored only seven runs.

After that, the former team India batter, Virender Sehwag said: “He has been dismissed playing those kind of shots so many times...but he should also learn from his mistakes, right? Look at Shubman Gill, who played U-19 cricket with him and is now playing Test, ODIs, and T20Is for India, but Shaw is still struggling in IPL. He has to make the most of this IPL platform and score runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 600-odd runs in an IPL season. Shubman Gill also scored big runs. So even Shaw has to be consistent with his IPL scores.” But, against RCB, he failed again as Prithvi Shaw scored a two-ball duck.
