Indian T20 League is undoubtedly one of the best franchise T20 leagues in the world across the cricketing fraternity. The tournament has reached new heights in the last 15 years since its inception back in the year 2008. Along with playing at the highest level of the game, it is also a very tough task to lead a team in this cash-rich Indian T20 tournament.

There have been a few captains in the history of the tournament; including the likes of Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma and Chennai’s skipper MS Dhoni. Both the skippers have led their teams to title wins in the tournament five and four times respectively.

With said that, here we’ll have a look at the six captains who won their first three matches of the tournament and registered a hat-trick of wins in the Indian T20 League.

Sachin Tendulkar

Former legendary Indian batter, Sachin Tendulkar was appointed as the skipper of Mumbai in the first-ever edition of the Indian T20 League played in 2008. Although the master blaster didn’t have that much long career with the bat in the tournament he had a great start as a skipper for Mumbai.

Sachin registered three straight wins in the tournament as captain of Mumbai in the first edition of the tournament.

Rohit Sharma

The current skipper of India’s national side, Rohit Sharma is the most successful captain in the Indian T20 League. The veteran Nagpur batter has won historic five titles as captain with the most successful team of the tournament Mumbai. He started captaining Mumbai almost 10 years back from now in the year 2013.

The veteran right-hander also made it to the list of very few captains who won their first three matches as skipper for their team.

MS Dhoni

Speaking of experience as a captain in the Indian T20 League, it is MS Dhoni has the experience of leading the team most of the time. The Ranchi star was named the skipper of the Chennai franchise in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008.

Dhoni registered three straight wins In the tournament. Later on, Dhoni went on to win the four titles for Chennai as a captain in the tournament.

George Bailey

The former Australian skipper started his Indian T20 League stint for Chennai before moving to the Punjab franchise later in the year 2014. He was appointed as captain of the team by the Punjab management.

Bailey had a dream start as captain for Punjab as skipper as the team won three consecutive matches just after he took over the captaincy.

Kane Williamson

The former legendary New Zealand skipper and batting superstar, Kane Williamson has one of the most celebrated and decorated international careers in the cricketing world. The Tauranga batter made his Indian T20 League debut for Hyderabad almost 8 years back in the year 2015.

Later on, he was appointed as the skipper of the team by the Hyderabad management in the year 2018. He won his first three matches straightway as skipper.

Hardik Pandya

The star Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya was picked by the new entrants Gujarat in last year’s edition of the Indian T20 League in 2022. The management appointed him as the captain under the coaching of Ashish Nehra.

Hardik led Gujarat to three consecutive wins in the 2022 edition of the tournament; including a title triumph after beating Rajasthan in the final of the tournament.
