During India’s third T20 international against the West Indies in February this year, Deepak Chahar suffered a quadriceps injury. Because of which, he was ruled out of the major chunk of the Indian T20 League 2022. Chennai, however, were confident that the pace-bowling all-rounder would be fit before the second week of April.

However, according to the recent reports, Deepak Chahar has now been ruled out of the entirety of the Indian T20 League 2022. While undergoing his rehabilitation in NCA, the Chennai fast bowler suffered a back injury, which means that he won’t be available for the whole season.

Chennai have had their worst ever start in the history of the league this season. They have lost all four matches played so far and would be keen to register their first win on Tuesday. Meanwhile, we take a look at 5 players who can replace Deepak Chahar in the Indian T20 League 2022.

  1. Ishant Sharma

Ishant Sharma played for Delhi last year but went unsold at the Indian T20 League 2022 Mega Auction. No franchise showed any interest in buying his services. However, he is a seasoned campaigner, and has the skill to perform on the grand stage. Thus, he could prove to be handy for Chennai to turn their fortunes around in the competition. In his Indian T20 League career, Ishant Sharma has picked 72 wickets in 93 matches at a strike rate of 27.74.

  1. Dhawal Kulkarni

Dhawal Kulkarni is also another fast bowler who went unsold at the auction. Kulkarni has the ability to swing the ball and thus, could be handy with the ball in the powerplay. He is currently part of the commentary team in the Indian T20 League 2022. One shouldn’t get surprised if he takes the ball instead of the mike later in the tournament. Kulkarni has taken 86 wickets in 92 Indian T20 league matches so far at an average of 28.8.

  1. Sandeep Warrier

For the unversed, Sandeep Warrier made his international cricket debut for India in July last year. However, unfortunately, he couldn’t find any buyer at the Indian T20 League 2022 Mega Auction. The Indian fast bowler has been part of the Kolkata and Bangalore in the previous editions of the Indian T20 League. Warrier has 59 T20 wickets to his name in 63 matches.

  1. Amit Mishra

Wrist spinners have had a great time so far in the Indian T20 League 2022. The likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi all have made a significant impact with the ball. Thus, Chennai could think of bringing Amit Mishra into the team. His inclusion could strengthen the spin attack and can allow Chennai to play both Pretorius and Bravo in the playing XI.

  1. Piyush Chawla

Piyush Chawla is also another wrist spinner who could be looked at as Deepak Chahar’s replacement in the tournament. Chawla is currently part of the commentary panel in the Indian T20 League 2022. He previously played for Chennai in the 2020 edition of the tournament but made horrendous returns with the ball.

However, keeping in mind wrist spinners’ success in the tournament thus far, Chawla could very well come as a replacement for Chahar for the remainder of the Indian T20 League 2022.
