5 Foreign T20 Leagues in which India and Pakistan players appear together

Almost 15 years back in the year 2008 when the Indian T20 League, everyone was excited to see the India and Pakistan players play together for a team. Former Pak skipper Shahid Afridi and current Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma were playing together for the Hyderabad franchise. Similarly, Sohail Tanvir was a part of Rajasthan which included a few Indian players as well.

But the Mumbai terror attacks later in the month of November 2008 changed the entire cricketing scenario between both countries. Just after that, two South Asian giants have been seen rarely playing against each other. Apart from that, Pakistani players haven’t appeared in any season of the Indian T20 League after 2008.

But as time passed away, a few of the franchise T20 leagues were introduced in foreign countries, these tournaments brought Indian and Pakistan cricketers together again to play for the same teams.

With said that, here we’ll have a look at five foreign T20 leagues in which Indo-Pak players played together for the same teams.

Abu Dhabi T10 League

The tournament was played a few months ago and it was hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Both active and retired cricketers throughout the cricketing world took part in the Abu Dhabi T10 League. Notably, it was also a tournament of the quickest format of the game.

A couple of retired Indian cricketers appeared in the tournament for different squads. The list included the likes of former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina, Stuart Binny, and Abhimanyu Mithun.

All these Indian cricketers were teammates with a few of the arch-rival Pakistan cricketers including Mohammad Hasnain, Azam Khan, Khushdil Shah, and Imad Wasim.

Legends League Masters

It is a tri-series tournament played annually with retired players from different cricket-playing countries. The tournament includes three teams in the form of India Maharajas, Asia Lions, and World Giants to lock horns for the coveted title.

The second season of the LLM will be played in Qatar very soon. Some of the former superstars from India and Pakistan are set to feature in the tournament. The list includes the likes of 2007 World Cup winner all-rounder Irfan Pathan alongside his then-counterpart Shahid Afridi alongside Robin Uthappa, S Sreesanth, and former Pak skipper Misbah-ul-Haq.

Lanka Premier League

Sri Lankan cricket Board came with their self-financed T20 League almost three years back in the year 2020. The first season of the tournament included a couple of cricketers both from India and Pakistan.

Some of the renowned names were Irfan Pathan, Manpreet Gony, Munaf Patel, Mohammad Amir, Shahid Afridi, and young Pakistani batter Azam Khan. They all played for the different franchise teams in the first season of LPL whereas some of the players also played as the teammate for the same team.

Nepal T20 League

One of the South Asian countries Nepal is gradually growing as a major cricket-playing nation in the Asian region. Nepal’s star leggie Sandeep Lamichhane has appeared in a couple of T20 Leagues across the cricketing globe and the country has come up with its own franchise T20 League of late.

Former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez attracted the eyeballs of the fans when he took part in the tournament. He was accompanied by his other mate from Pakistan Hussain Talat whereas Abhimanyu Mithun was an entry into the tournament from India.

Caribbean Premier League

Caribbean Premier League is one of the cash-rich franchise T20 leagues in the world just after the Indian T20 League. India’s veteran and experienced leg-spinner Pravin Tambe had played in this T20 league of West Indies. Other than Tambe, a few of India’s ex-domestic players also featured in the tournament.

The list included the likes of Smit Patel, Sunny Sohal, and Saurabh Netravalkar as they got contracts in CPL after they left India to pursue cricket in the USA. Pakistani players had also played alongside the Indians in CPL including Azam Khan, Mohammad Amir, Qasim Akram, and Imad Wasim.
