For the second season in a row, Hyderabad failed to reach the playoffs in the Indian T20 League in 2022. Despite boasting of a strong squad, Hyderabad couldn’t produce consistent performances during the tournament.

Kane Williamson’s lack of form meant Hyderabad failed to get solid starts and it resulted in low scores. The bowling unit too couldn’t perform as a unit. Hyderabad, as a result, could only manage to win 6 games out of 14 and, thus, finished at the bottom half of the table.

In this article, we take a look 3 players that Hyderabad might release ahead of the next season:

  1. Romario Shepherd

Romario Shepherd was given 3 matches to showcase his skills in the Indian T20 League 2022. However, the West Indies failed to live up to the expectations. He could only manage to score 58 runs and pick 3 wickets at an economy of 10.89.

Shepherd got the opportunity to play Hyderabad’s last game in the league stage. He played a handy knock of 15-ball 26 but was hammered for 23 runs in one over in the second innings. Given how he has performed for the franchise this year, it’s unlikely that he will be retained for next season. Hyderabad might look for a different overseas all-rounder.

  1. Shreyas Gopal

Shreyas Gopal played only 1 match for Hyderabad in the Indian T20 League 2022. He bowled 3 overs in that game and picked 1 wicket at an economy of 10.89. For the rest of the games, the franchise played the likes of Washington Sundar and J Suchith.

Despite Sundar getting injured during the tournament, the management trusted in the abilities of Suchith more than Gopal. It seemed like Hyderabad didn’t have enough confidence in his abilities and you might not see him playing for Hyderabad in the next edition.

  1. Sean Abbott

Sean Abbott is a household name in the Big Bash League. Hyderabad bought his services in the 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League. Sean Abbott played one match this season against Delhi in the 50th match of the tournament at Brabourne Stadium.

Abbott got the wicket of Mitchell Marsh but was hammered for 47 runs in his quota of four overs. He was dropped for the next remaining matches of the league stage and the franchise might not retain him for next season. Abbott is likely to return to the auction pool next year.
