Ahead of the start of the Indian T20 League 2022, Punjab were touted as one of the favorites to lift the title. However, once again, the franchise couldn’t live up to all the hype and failed to reach the playoffs. Mayank Agarwal and Co. finished at number six on the table at the end of the league stage.

They won 7 matches out of 14 and had they won one more game, Punjab might have even reached the playoffs. They would be disappointed but would be keen to come back stronger next year. Much like the other teams, some of the Punjab’s players also disappointed the fans with their performances. Ahead of the auction next year, the franchise could release some of the players and, in this article, we will be predicting 3 such players.

  1. Sandeep Sharma

Punjab had a great overseas paceman in Kagiso Rabada. He turned out to be the standout bowler for them. However, the franchise would look to strengthen the pace department by adding some good Indian fast bowlers.

For the 2021 edition, they trusted in Sandeep Sharma’s ability but he couldn’t live up to the team’s expectations. He has looked like a shadow of his former self and the franchise might not retain him for the next season. The 29-year-old fast bowler picked 5 wickets in 5 matches at 76.50.

  1. Harpreet Brar

Harpreet Brar impressed everyone with his left-arm spin in the 2021 edition of the Indian T20 League. However, he couldn’t make an impact with the ball in the ongoing edition. He returned with 3 wickets in Punjab’s last game but could only pick 2 wickets in the first 4 games. Overall, he picked 5 wickets in 2 matches at an average of 36.50.

  1. Benny Howell

Notably, Benny Howell was the only overseas player in the squad who didn’t play a single game in the Indian T20 League 2022. The likes of Odean Smith, Rabada and Nathan Ellis were all given opportunities to prove their mettle. Perhaps, the franchise didn’t have enough confidence in Benny Howell and he might not even be retained by the franchise for next season.
