The ongoing edition of the 20-20 World Cup has come up with some unprecedented and unpredictable results when some associate or low-ranked teams stunned everyone by outclassing the top Test-playing teams. The trend of upsets in the current World Cup started in the first round only.

Before the start of the super-12 round, the two-time World 20-20 Champions West Indies were knocked out of the tournament following their defeats against Scotland and Ireland.

Apart from that, some of the renowned names of the current era of cricket have failed drastically in the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup. Although, a few names like former Indian skipper and senior batter, Virat Kohli are not on this list of flopped names.

Current Indian skipper and three-time ODI double-centurion, Rohit Sharma has failed to deliver up to the expectations of the Indian team and fans as well. In the entire tournament he played so far, the 35-year-old has scored only a half-century against the minnows like the Netherlands in the second super-12 match of India. Speaking of his overall performance in the tournament, Rohit has only 18 runs to his name in the 20-20 World Cup.

2. Babar Azam

Pakistan skipper and one of the finest modern-day batters, Babar Azam has also gone through a lean patch with the bat in the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup. Pakistan has somehow made an entry to the semi-finals riding on the upset that happened with South Africa against the Netherlands. Whereas the 28-year-old skipper has only 39 runs to his bat in the five super-12 matches Pakistan played.

3. Mohammad Rizwan

The former World number-one T20I batter couldn’t impress in the entire tournament so far and Rizwan’s failure was also one of the main reasons that compelled the men in green to be dependent on the fate of other matches in the tournament. The 30-year-old batter has scored only 103 including his only best individual performance of 49 runs against the Netherlands in Pakistan’s third super-12 match.

The veteran Aussie opener was seen finding his form in all the matches of the 20-20 World Cup he played in his home country. The southpaw’s poor form can be counted as one of the main reasons for the early elimination of the defending champions.

The 37-year-old senior Indian wicketkeeper-batter impressed everyone with his amazing outings in the 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League. Although, he has failed to carry that form in the marquee tournament so far and failed to deliver on the instances whenever he got a chance to bat. In this edition of the 20-20 World Cup, Karthik has below-average outings to his name which eventually turned out to be a headache for the men in blue.

South African skipper Temba Bavuma is just one of those captains who failed to lead their teams from the front with an example. A lot of cricket pundits went on to say that other performing players were made to sit on the bench due to the presence of Bavuma as a captain in the team.

Perth-born all-rounder could score only 106 runs with the bat in four matches of the tournament he played for Australia.

Bangladesh skipper and senior all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan went on to hit the headlines of the cricketing World with some of his controversial statements. But speaking of individual contributions, the 35-year-old could have only 44 runs to his name in the five matches and only six wickets with the ball in all five matches of the tournament.

The veteran South African wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock had enjoyed good form on the India tour in a bilateral series just before the commencement of the 20-20 World Cup. But he couldn’t capitalize on his brilliant form in the marquee tournament and failed to deliver up to expectations.

The veteran all-rounder was supposed to deliver his best in home conditions while playing in Australia. But he could manage to score only 118 runs in four innings and looked out of form when it was required at most in the middle overs of the match.

The former Afghanistan skipper decided to step down from the role of captaincy just after the end of his team’s campaign in the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup. The 37-year-old failed to deliver with the bat for his team which eventually resulted in the Afghan team’s elimination from the tournament without registering a single win in the tournament.
