'Age is just a number'- Twitter congratulates Bhagwani Devi as he wins a Gold Medal in athletics at the age of 94

Recently, Bhagwani Devi Dagar showed that age is just a number. She won a gold medal at the age of 94 in World Masters Athletics Championships 2022. Devi clocked 24.74 seconds for completing the 100 m race. After winning the medal, the Department of Sports MYAS congratulated the winner. The tweet also revealed that she won a Bronze medal in the Shot Put event

“India’s 94-year-old #BhagwaniDevi Ji has yet again proved that age is no bar! She won a GOLD medal at the #WorldMastersAthleticsChampionships in Tampere in the 100m sprint event with a timing of 24.74 seconds. She also bagged a BRONZE in Shot put. Truly commendable effort!,” the Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports tweeted.

The World Masters Athletics Championships were held in Finland from 29th June to 10th July. After landing in India, the 94-year-old said that she is happy to make the country proud.

The competition was held for athletes aged 35 years and older. Talking about Dagar, she qualified for the event after bagging three Gold Medals in National Masters Athletics Championships, held in Chennai. She is also the winner of three gold medals earlier as well in the 100m race, shot put and javelin throw at the Delhi State Athletics Championship.

Talking about the tournament, it includes a full range of track and field events. Notably, the recently concluded edition was to be held in Canada in 2020. However, it was cancelled due to COVID 19 pandemic. Meanwhile, after Bhagwani Devi won the medal, congratulatory messages came from a few famous politicians.

Sports minister of India, Anurag Thakur, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Hardeep Singh Puri, and Piyush Goyal congratulated the Gold Medalist. The other Twitter users were also in awe of her achievement.
