The Indian T20 League (ITL 2023) mini-auction for the 2023 edition got over on December 13, 2022, in Kochi and the likes of Sam Curran, Ben Stokes, Cameron Green and Nicholas Pooran went for record bids, with Curran bagging the highest bid of INR 18.5 crore to the Punjab franchise. Green, the Australian allrounder, went to the Mumbai franchise for a whopping INR 17.5 crore, making him the second-highest bid of the ITL 2023 auction.

While many were excited for the Australian allrounder to be a part of the Rohit Sharma-led team, a few of them claimed that they went a bit over the board for the cricketer and said that they must have gone with other allrounders instead. We decided to handpick three players whom the Mumbai franchise could have picked instead of Cameron Green in the mini-auction.

Here are the three players whom Mumbai could have picked instead of Cameron Green in ITL 2023 mini-auction:

3) Chris Jordan

Chris Jordan, the star English allrounder, was earlier a part of the Chennai franchise and is known for his ability to take the game away from the opponent single-handedly on his given day. To add more, the cricketer can add depth to the bowling as he can roll his arms over in crucial circumstances and provide much-needed breakthroughs.

However, Jordan went unsold in the auction and fans claimed that he could have been a great fit in the Mumbai set-up as the team have already packed up the pace battery with Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer, with Jordan as the third backup. Although he could go for runs, Jordan is proving his worth in the ongoing ILT20 tournament.

2) Dasun Shanaka

Dasun Shanaka, the Sri Lankan white-ball captain, proved his might in the recently concluded ODI series against India when the batter almost pulled off a stunning chase during the first ODI against the fiery Men in Blue pace battery chasing a target of 374 in Guwahati. To add more to his innings, the batter scored an unbeaten 108 off just 88 balls and despite his heroics, Sri Lanka fell short of the target.

The Lankan Lions star could have made an impact with the ball as well, given that he came up with a few impressive spells in the same series. However, much to the dreariness of the fans, Shanaka was overlooked in the auction and went unsold as franchises had other plans instead. Mumbai could have picked him ahead of Cameron Green as Shanaka gives the much-needed depth with his experience as well.

1) Michael Bracewell

Michael Bracewell, the New Zealand allrounder, proved his prowess in the first ODI against India played on January 18, Wednesday, when he took the Kiwis closer to the win with his effective 140 chasing a target of 350. However, despite his great-hearted innings, the Black Caps fell short of the target by 13 runs.

Bracewell made a statement with the bat and the ball in the initial game of the three-match contest, with fans claiming that Mumbai could have picked him up rather than Cameron Green. It remains to be seen if the Australian star could live up to the expectations in the highly-competitive tournament and if he fails, one has to agree that he might end up facing ruthless criticism.
