Rohit Sharma, the veteran team India opener, will lead the Indian team in the 50-over World Cup for the very first time in 2023 and it would be a great honour for the right-handed batter. For the unversed, Rohit’s first multinational tournament was the 20-20 World Cup 2022 where the team got crushed by England in the semi-finals.

As far as Rohit’s form in 2019 is concerned, the batter was at his peak and was the only hope for India barring KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Jasprit Bumrah. Team India were knocked out of the tournament by New Zealand in the semi-finals and the opener gathered 648 runs with five centuries to his name in the multinational tournament in 2019.

During the series against ODI, in the final contest on Tuesday, Rohit ended his three-year ODI century drought and made a statement ahead of the much-awaited multinational tournament. His getting back to form is a warning sign for all other nations and this might help him replicate his 2019 form.

If one could remember, after missing out on the 2011 50-over World Cup squad, the Indian captain tweeted saying that he was disappointed about missing out on the competitive tournament. Ever since he was asked to open in 2013 during the Champions Trophy, the fortunes have changed.

Eventually, Rohit proved his might in 2019 and the World Cup, being the highest-regarded tournament, might come as a motivational factor for Rohit. The hunger to win and the responsibility of being the captain of the pack might as well come as catalyst factors in helping him fare well for the Men in Blue.

1) Rohit Sharma and his men to fight at home

India are the host for the upcoming 50-over World Cup in 2023 and they have started the home contests in style, defeating Sri Lanka and New Zealand 3-0 in the ODIs. With back-to-back whitewashes, India are already on a roll ahead of the much-awaited competition.

Rohit Sharma, being the captain of the team, might use the familiarity of the pitches and this in turn might help him get the best out of him. Known for his stupendous records in the backyard, Rohit could well replicate the form from 2019 and help the Indian team lift the trophy for the third time, although it would not be easy at all.
