The Asia Cup is a multi-lateral tournament that is organized by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Notably, for the first time Pakistan and Sri Lanka will jointly host the event as part of a hybrid model. Four matches will be played in Pakistan while the remaining nine will be held in the Emerald Isle. Moreover, the tournament will be held in the ODI format to serve as ideal preparation ahead of World Cup 2023.
The format goes like this – there are six teams who will be divided into two groups each. Nepal, Pakistan and India are a part of Group A. On the other hand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are part of Group B. Furthermore, the teams also have to brace for some hectic travel barring India who will play all their matches in Sri Lanka. The last time the Asia Cup was held in the ODI format India were crowned champions in 2018. In the process, they emerged victorious after beating Bangladesh in a hard-fought final.
